Obituary

Wanda Joyce Rackley, age 77 of Rock Island, Tennessee and Warren County native was born Tuesday, December 22, 1942 and passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at her home in the Rocky River Community following an extended illness.

She was the retired owner and operator of Joyce's Mountain Market on Harrison Ferry Mountain for 15 years. She was the daughter of the late Melvin Hillis and Mildred Clendenan Hillis of McMinnivlle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Chuckie Thaxton and brother, Billy Joe Hillis.

Joyce is survived by her husband Mase Rackley and son Trence Thaxton of Rocky River, step-daughters, Casah Rackley Crawson of Orange Beach, AL, and Amanda Rackley of Anniston, AL, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, two sisters Faylene Timbs of Murfreesboro and Sandra Wilson and spouce Jerry of McMinnville, one brother Bobby Hillis of Woodbury and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was gifted in flower arranging, sewing, and quilting. She was also known for her hospitality to family and friends at her summertime riverside picnics. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite memories with them were playing in the river on her property. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her contagious laugh and wonderful family stories.

Joyce never liked being the center of attention and per her wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association.

Walk with me to the water, when it comes my time. What we say will not matter, just keep your hand in mine. I'll cross the water by myself, I know that's what I must do. But the chilling sting won't be felt, because I've walked with you. by Nellie Keller

Joyce's soul is at rest now. She's in a better place. Probably raising a ruckus with Billie Joe. She will be forever missed. Much love!
