Obituary for Velma Jean Hobbs (Nunley)
Velma Jean Hobbs, age 92 of McMinnville, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at her residence of an extended illness.
Velma was born Wednesday, February 19, 1930 in McMinnville, Tennessee, She was the daughter of the late Alvin Nunley and Betty Dixon Nunley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Claudine Hobbs, brothers, George Adam and Charlie "Pid" Nunley and son-in-law, Bill Huffaker.
Velma was a homemaker, a factory worker and retired from Century Electric after 16 years of service. She also worked at Kroger and with Meals on Wheels where she loved to serve and help with her great smile. Velma always worked in the community helping others and just being the loving and caring person she was. She would spend a lot of her time visiting others in the nursing home and the hospital. Heaven is a lot sweeter because she is there with the love of her life, her husband Claudine.
Velma is survived by three daughters, Debbie Hobbs of McMinnville, TN; Brenda Kaye Smith and husband, David of Indianapolis, IN; Martha Huffaker of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Alda "Tooter" Bandy and husband, Don of McMinnville, TN; Elizabeth "Sene" Winningham of McMinnville, TN; one brother, L.D. Nunley of McMinnville, TN;
six grandchildren, Stephanie Todd Rutledge and husband, Chad David Smith, Jr. and wife, Katie, Steven Smith and wife, Michanda, Jennifer Smith Silver and husband, Larry, Jessica Smith Wicker and husband, Adam and Haleigh Huffaker Wheatley and husband, Thomas; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

A Funeral Service was held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home with Danny Barnes officiating. Interment followed in the Armstrong Cemetery in Warren County.
The family received friends 10:00 a.m. until the time of service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home.
Gardens of Memory Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
