Obituary for Kenneth Merle Smith

Kenneth “Pops” Smith was a long-time resident of Picayune, MS. He lived the last 9 years of his life in Middle Tennessee. He passed away on September 4, 2021, at the age of 81. He was a current resident of McMinnville, TN where he lived with his loving family. Kenneth was born on October 28, 1939, in Pearl River County, MS, where he worked and retired as a postman for the USPS.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Edna Smith; his son, Jason Smith; his daughters, Sherri Scaife and Jodie Smith; his brother, Jerry Smith; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother, Jessie Mae Spiers; his father, Jack Spiers; and his sons, Kenny Smith and Anthony Smith.
Kenneth was a man of God. He was a member of Westlawn Baptist Church, in Picayune, MS. He loved to worship our Lord and Savior on Sunday mornings with Pastor Allen Jackson of World Outreach Church, in Murfreesboro, TN.
On January 4, 1972, Kenneth married the love of his life, Edna Smith. They shared two sons together, Anthony and Jason Smith. He was previously married to Diane Doherty. They shared two children together, a daughter; Sherri Scaife, and a son; Kenny Smith. His children blessed him with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he shared many memories, and loved unconditionally.
Kenneth and Edna have been married for 49 wonderful years. They are the perfect example of a successful marriage. They have made many memories from the exciting life they had lived together. Pops had a way with people. Those who met him, instantly loved him. He was spoiled rotten by his family, and we liked to call him “The King”. He was much more than that though. He was the patriarch of our family, the man of the house, and was always the center of attention. Not because of his dashing good looks, funny personality, or his charming way, but because he was the heart of this family. His love for those around him was like no other and shared so much joy with us. Even in his final days.
If there was one last thing I could say to him, it would be how much we love him, and how we are trying to fill our hurting hearts with our wonderful memories of you. You are missed terribly, and we will continue to keep you close by in our thoughts and prayers.
God, we thank you for the many years, and the many memories you have allowed us to have with Mr. Kenneth. We know that everyone has a purpose, and when that purpose is fulfilled, you call us home. We know that you will open your strong arms and welcome us into Heaven. We can not wait until the day we get to rise into your glory, and look upon your face, and kiss your precious feet, as you welcome us home to live the eternal life that was promised to us with the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who died on the cross for our sins. God, we cannot wait to be in your presence, so that one day you will bring us to see our loved ones, as that will be a joyous day to celebrate! God, we thank you for blessing us with the many years you have, and pray you have mercy on use, and continue to bless us all with good health, new memories, and the love of family. We beg you to open our hearts, so that we may receive your perfect love and offerings. Thank You, our precious Savior, Amen.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, 2021, at The Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, in McMinnville, TN at 11 AM. Donations, flowers, and condolences may be offered to: Edna Smith, 639 Sunburst Dr. McMinnville, TN 37110.
Thank you for your continuous thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Love always,
The Smith Family
