Obituary for Hattie Slaughter Stephanson (Byars)

Hattie Slaughter Stephanson age , 85 of McMinnville, Tennessee passed from this life on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at decendent's residence in McMinnville, Tennessee following a two year battle with cancer.

Hattie was born, January 8, 1936 in Rock Island, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Asa Byars and the late Ella Hutchins Byars.

She was retired from Oster/Jarden Manufacturing after 38 years of employment. She was also a substitute teacher with the Warren County School System which she truly enjoyed and worked as a CNA in her retirement. Her flower and vegetable gardens were her passion.

Surviving are daughters, Jewell Walker (Larry), Marlene Slaughter, and Darlene Slaughter all of McMinnville, TN. Granddaughters Vanessa McCormick of McMinnville, TN, Jessica Brown Argo (Kevin) of Spencer, TN. She has one grandson Jay Link (Ashley) of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by great granddaughters Laurna Beth McCormick, Phoenix Simpson, Bekah Argo, Journey Wilson and Nova Link. Her great grandsons whom survived are Colten Link, Kai Siu, Brenley Siu,Wilder and Navy Link. Special Friends Denise Wanamaker and Family of McMinnville. Several nieces, nephews,cousins and friends also survive.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Asa Byars and Ella Hutchins. Her husband of 57 years, J.E. Slaughter. Her siblings Elizabeth Johnson and Reva Jo Pendergrass, James and Edwin Byars and granddaughter Whitney Brown.

A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, Sepember 9, 2021 at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home located at 415 North Chancery St. McMinnville, Tennessee 37110 with the Pastor Harley Rhoth officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Hill (Hills Creek) Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 4PM to 8 PM at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home McMinnville TN and Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 9 AM to 1 PM with the funeral to follow at 1 PM.

The family does ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the McMinnville Seventh Day Adventist School, in c/o Denise Salbury 215 Bluff Springs Rd. McMinnville, TN 37110.

Family does request that visitors use COVID precautions.
