Obituary

Carmela Bervin affectionately known to family as “ Ma Cam” or “Cami” was born on
November 4, 1928. She passed away January 23, 2021 at 92 years. Carmela was 1 of 8 children born to the late Asunta and Michel Meo.
She and her siblings, Antoinette Meo, Salvador Meo, Antoine Meo, Rita Lochard, Lolo Meo, Marie Meo, and survived by her baby sister, Cinnette Vaughn.
The family moved several times, from Naples, Italy to Sicily and during WWI the family
migrated to Haiti.

Carmela was married to the late Gabriel Bervin for 25
years and had 5 daughters. They immigrated from Haiti,
to the United States where they settled in their home in
Chicago, Illinois. Carmela worked as a nurse for 25 years
at multiple hospitals in the Chicagoland area.
She is survived by her 5 daughters, Jocelyn Barrett,
Magalie Rodriguez, Dr. Bernadette (Wolfgang) Meyer,
Gabrielle (Wayne) Austin, and Shirley Bervin. Carmela is
also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 10 great-
grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a host of
other relatives.

Carmela was a spiritual woman who had a strong faith
grounded in Christianity. You could always find her bible
turned to one of her favorite scriptures, Psalm 23 “The
Lord is my Shepherd”, oftentimes at the kitchen table.
Carmela was quick witted, strong-willed and a lover of
“good food”. She passed on her strength and practice of
prayer to her children and grandchildren. She had a
special relationship with family members and loved to
share stories about life with them. Carmela’s door was
always open to family, immediate or extended, anytime
day or night. One could always get a meal, a story and a
few laughs. Ma Cam lived a full and blessed life. She will
be greatly missed as she was loved by so many.
Immediate services will be held in McMinnville, TN on
Tuesday January 26, 2021, at 11:00. The family plans to
have a “Celebration of Life” in Atlanta in the early fall,
2021.
In lieu of flowers please donate to your local food bank.
There are many families in need. Ma Cam believed in
everyone having a good meal.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and support.
